Queen of Angels School Newsletter, November 16, 2007
Dear Parents, November and December are favorite months for many people. By now the heat of summer has faded and the leaves are falling. The air is crisp and has a distinctive "autumn" fragrance. In these months, we take on a sense of "harvest." The beauty of the season reminds us of the many gifts we have been blessed with by our Lord. We each take a little more time to reflect on the presence of the Lord in our lives and thank Him for all things. May our prayers also include a desire that we be filled with faith, and the determination to never fail to share with others the hope of a harvest that is abundant and eternal. May we all praise God and thank God for the gift of the fruits of our labor. Happy Thanksgiving! --Mrs. Jordan ╬ Congratulations to Brandon (grade 8), Joseph (grade 4) and Ashleigh (grade 6) Cardone on the occasion of their First Holy Communion, which was received on Friday, November 16, at the All School Mass. May they always remain close to Jesus in the Eucharist. Bishop Dwenger High School will host Saints Day, November 30 from 8 am to 1:15 pm for all 8th grade students. Our 8th graders will report to Bishop Dwenger on this day instead of our school. Thank You for your continued help saving Box Tops, Campbell's Soup Labels, used ink jet Cartridges, pop tabs, and batteries. On October 29, we submitted 4,975 Box Tops (collected since last spring) for redemption and will receive a check in return for $497.50. We also recently submitted an order to Campbell's Soup Labels Program for the redemption of about 72,000 labels collected over the last few years. We have received hundreds of dollars of merchandise that can be used on the playground, in the classroom, including videos, science equipment, playground balls, jump ropes, and books. Please continue to collect these items for our students! Thanksgiving Food Drive-- Thank you for all of the food donations this past week. All the food will be donated to our St. Vincent DePaul food pantry here at Queen of Angels. They have expressed a huge need for food at this time. University of St. Francis Nursing students visited our kindergarten- 2nd grade classrooms on Wednesday, November 14, as a part of their course requirements. They spent the morning observing the teacher and the students, and also did a hand washing project with the students to help them understand that cleanliness is important to good health. They discussed germs, bacteria, and how not to spread germs. Weather Delay and Closing Policies: See the attached handout on this, and please make sure to put it some place safe for hand reference. We are Thankful for the many Lunchroom and Playground Volunteers- Tammy Neireiter, Michelle Miller, Liz Myers, Sherrie Dennie, Sharon Boren, Peggy Klein, Kim Yarman, Tracy Stone, Bill Koehl, Kate Fowler, Joyce Urban, Dani Mostes, Kenneth & Becky Talarico, Terri Milledge, Douglas Keppol, Gail Ryan, Mary Nicholson. Thank you for supporting us in the supervision of our children. We are still in need of volunteers for both the lunchroom and the playground. If you can volunteer for at least one day a month, we would appreciate it. Your help is always welcome. Playground supervision is the more critical area of need because of the large area within which the children play. Please call the school office to volunteer. THANK YOU!
